The importance of close friends, especially female friends is the purpose to today's blog! Women (and men) are created for connection. Connection to one another and connection to ourselves. I have been lucky that in every different time in life I have been surrounded by powerful and trustworthy ladies. This addition to my life makes such a difference. But why??? Why make an effort to have girlfriends? Why have friends in general? Because we need to hear other voices in our lives than just the ones in our heads and on social media/TV.
I know that I can get caught up when scrolling on Insta. Caught up in a tornado of lies about myself and what my life should look like. I should have those clothes. I should be raising my kid that way. I should have a relationship with my husband like that..... and on and on!
Truthfully, the best advice and support I have ever gotten in life is from FRIENDS. People who know me and my heart and want the best for me. And as much as my husband may be a support to me, he will never know what it is like to be a woman in this world.
So put instagram down. Turn off the TV and movies. Call your friends. Text them if you hate talking on the phone. Reach out and they will reach back.
If you don't have women in your life to talk to, start putting yourself out there and find some. Guaranteed there are others out there just as eager to have a friend as you are.
One of the best friends I have ever had is a girl who I asked for her number at church over ten years ago. Awkward in the moment, absolutely! But long term one of the best friends I have.
